Kapok Park is located on the west side of McMullen Booth Road just north of Drew Street and connects to the Ream Wilson Trail. The park has a very relaxing atmosphere with large open spaces, an almost mile long nature trail, historic moss-covered oak trees, bridges over tranquil waters and boardwalk trails that wind throughout the park. There are boardwalks throughout the park.
The 19.4 acres of herbaceous and forest wetlands absorb nutrients, enhance water quality and reduce pollutant loading downstream to Alligator Lake and Old Tampa Bay. Before the floodplain was filled and the stream was channeled in the 1960s, a creek meandered through a forested wetland that extended for several miles. A portion of this historic channel remains, bisecting the central island. The restored wetland and upland areas provide essential habitat for wildlife, including many threatened and endangered species.
It is the responsibility of each person to conduct recreational activities in such a manner so as to prevent injury or loss of life to any person; therefore, it is necessary to prescribe rules and regulations to govern recreational activities in the park areas and on public beaches.
For a full list of rules, read the Clearwater Code of Ordinances.
The city of Clearwater assumes no responsibility for personal injury or loss of personal property while visitors use city facilities or participate in recreation activities. Be aware of safety factors regarding your own physical limitations and use common sense when participating in leisure activities. If you notice a safety hazard or potential risk, please notify staff or call (727) 562-4800.
If someone is not following these rules or acting in a way that is creating danger for park users or damaging park property, please contact the Clearwater Police Department non-emergency line at (727) 562-4242. In an emergency, always call 911.
