Volunteering is a great way to make an impact, stay connected and meet like-minded individuals. The city of Clearwater has an array of opportunities from which to choose from.

Parks & Recreation

The City of Clearwater Parks and Recreation Volunteer Program assists with and improves city programs, services, facilities and beautification by recruiting, training and retaining volunteers from the local community. The generosity of our volunteers helps to provide the community with meaningful programs, events, and safe scenic landscapes to work, play, and live in.

Step 1.Find out if your group qualifies:

  • Volunteers of all ages, but youth under the age of sixteen must be accompanied by an adult. Youth groups must have a minimum of one adult leader per five children.
  • Bright Future students
  • Older adult groups
  • Corporations
  • Community Groups and non-profit organizations

Step 2.Fill out a volunteer application

After you click "Fill Out A Volunteer Application", you will be taken to a website called "GivePulse". GivePulse is our Volunteer hub where all volunteer events are posted. You will need a GivePulse account to sign up and receive event notifications. Click "Sign Up" and fill out the necessary information to start an account.

Library

The Clearwater Public Library System welcomes and encourages members of the community to contribute their time, talents and knowledge to become one of our many valued volunteers. Our volunteer program helps us provide the best possible service to the public by enriching and expanding library services.

We encourage volunteer participation at all the library branches. Volunteers are retirees, professionals, homemakers, students, part-time residents, and men and women of all backgrounds who live in surrounding communities. The volunteer program, through the dedication and commitment of our volunteers, allows the library to meet the challenges and needs of our large population of library users.

Volunteers generally provide support services to staff or work on special projects with staff. Positions are designed to match volunteers' skills, interests and schedule.

Assignments may change and openings may vary; however, the time commitment required for most positions is 1 to 3 hours per week.

If you are an adult applicant and have submitted your application, your application will be reviewed and the library of your choice will contact you as openings become available. If there are no openings available, your application will be retained and be put on the waiting list.

Step 3.Teens: Call or email the library teen volunteer coordinator

After submitting your application online, call (727) 562-4970 and request the library where you are interested in volunteering at and to speak to the location's Teen Volunteer Coordinator. You may also email them by clicking on their name below:

If there are current openings for new volunteers, you will be contacted by the library location to which you applied.
If there are no current openings for new volunteers, you will be put on the library location's teen volunteer waiting list and contacted when an opening becomes available.

Step 5.If you are logging hours for educational purposes

Don't forget if you are completing service learning hours for educational purposes, it is your responsibility to make sure that your guidance counselor or school representative has approved your volunteer assignment. It is also your responsibility to make sure that all paperwork involved is properly tracked, signed, and submitted. If you need assistance, please contact either your school representative or the appropriate Teen Volunteer Coordinator.

Bright Futures has very strict guidelines. Make sure you check with your school before beginning hours for this scholarship.

General Administration volunteers assist inside the police station with many administrative tasks, such as filing, copying, supply distribution, shredding, training of other volunteers, and overall, working in a variety of office-type settings.

Patrol includes wearing a uniform and driving marked pick-up trucks within the city limits, assisting the public, checking for safety hazards, reporting suspicious vehicles or persons, code violations, minor traffic crashes (non-injury/parking lots); reporting road obstructions, working special events (concerts), traffic direction and conducting welfare checks. Sometimes, these volunteers will also patrol city parks and sections of the Pinellas Trail, Clearwater Beach, and Sand Key.
