Evidence-Based Wellness Programs

Ross Norton Recreation Complex is honored to host Evidence-Based programs that offer proven ways through defined research to promote wellness and manage or reduce health concerns and/or falls. Class size is limited. Pre-registration is required. Classes are free to participants. 

A MATTER OF BALANCE: An evidence-based, Boston University program to manage falls and increase activity levels. Program consists of eight – 2 hour sessions to include lecture from certified instructors, group discussion and exercises.

TAI CHI: Moving for Better Balance –An evidence-based program consisting of eight single forms in the program derived from the traditional, 24-Form Yang Style Tai Chi but tailored to adults who have concerns about falling and wish to improve balance and mobility. One hour class held twice weekly for 12 weeks.

Enhance® Fitness

In partnership with the YMCA of the Suncoast, Ross Norton offers this Evidence-Based group exercise program that uses simple, easy-to-learn movements that motivate individuals (particularly those with arthritis) to stay active. Each session includes cardiovascular, strength training, balance and flexibility exercises. Provided by Pinellas County Social Action funding. One hour class held three times weekly for 16 weeks. Participants must be age 65 or older. Classes are free to participants.  

FREE! WELLNESS-EXERCISE

Walking Club | Tue., & Thu. | 10 a.m.

Walk at your own pace. Improve your physical and mental well-being while walking the scenic one mile loop around Lake Belleview. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing. Bring a water bottle. Free.

Bike Club | The Coaster Brake Club | Tue., 9  a.m.

Enjoy easy rides of no more than 6 miles to several scenic destinations, leaving from Ross Norton at Lake Belleview.  Bring a water bottle and a spare tube.  Free.

Gratitude and Happiness | Thu., Nov. 19 | 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Research shows that you can achieve greater happiness by developing your sense of gratitude. By following simple practices as little as once a week, you can increase your vitality, improve relationships and become more optimistic. 

Reiki Circle | Thu. Oct. 26 & Tues., Nov. 28 | 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Feel a greater sense of peace, calm and connectedness as Reiki practitioners tap universal life energy and enhance the ability of participants to increase their sense of well-being. 

Chakras | Tue., Oct. 31 | 10:30 a.m. to  noon

 Discover the seven energy centers of the body, their locations, functions and methods of balancing them to create physical and mental harmony. Call for date and time. 

 

ARTS AND CRAFTS

GLASS FUSION: Necklace and Earrings | Fri. Oct. 27 | 10:30 a.m. to noon

Create beautiful and luminous glass jewelry. Jewelry will be fired and ready the following week. $10 materials fee paid directly to instructor.

 

FREE!  SHINE Medicare/Medicaid INSURANCE COUNSELING

Shine volunteers offer unbiased insurance counseling on Medicare/Medicaid, prescriptions and long-term care insurance. Pre-registration required. Call for appointment. 727-462-6025   Free.
